National Women's History Month

Thirty-five years ago, then-President Jimmy Carter issued a Presidential Proclamation declaring the week of March 8, 1980, as the first National Women’s History Week. In 1987, Congress expanded the celebration from a week into a month, and March is now National Women's History Month.

For over a decade, Birmingham-Southern College has participated in the countrywide effort to recognize the historical accomplishments of women with a month-long series of talks on professionalism and productivity for women.

Women’s history is the story of overcoming obstacles and breaking barriers. Join us for these upcoming events that empower both men and women to help write the next chapter of women in history, culture, and society:
