Giving Tuesday campaign breaks goal, raises more than $50,000 for local scholarships

Birmingham-Southern College is celebrating the success of its first major #GivingTuesday campaign. This year, the Young Alumni Council set out to create a new City of Birmingham Scholarship to support a local student in the BSC Class of 2023, and to raise money for it during the global day of giving.

More than 230 donors stepped up to blow through the campaign's initial $7,500 goal. Overall, the day raised $53,176 for the scholarship. Discussions are underway as to how the additional funds will be distributed.

Thanks to widespread support, the college's other fall fundraising efforts have also met with success. The Panthers Call Phonathon program has raised more than $100,000 this fall, with one week to go. The Hilltop Parent and Family Fund also surpassed its fall fundraising goal of $10,000 by more than 50 percent.

“The outpouring of support from the entire BSC community has been so wonderful to see,” said Sarah-Kate Roberts, BSC’s director of annual giving. “These funds will allow students access to this life-changing educational experience through scholarships and continue to upgrade their experience on the Hilltop. And it also shows the world that our graduates, students, employees, parents, and friends stand behind the college.”
