    Coordinator of Admission Events

    Birmingham-Southern College has an opening for an Admission Event Coordinator. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative and high energy professional, wishing to utilize their gift of hospitality and organizational skills to facilitate the daily campus visit program as well as plan and execute all on-campus recruitment events.

    The event aspect of the position includes responsibility for collaboratively managing all details of recruitment events such as reserving facilities, managing catering details, coordinating Birmingham-Southern College personnel (staff, faculty, students and alumni) to events.

    Additionally, collaborating on the development of event-related printed and electronic invitations, information and programs is also the responsibility of the coordinator. Other important aspects of the position include maintaining a master calendar and planning timeline for all recruiting events. Conducting evaluations of each event and making improvements based upon the evaluations will be a requirement for this position.

    The visit aspect of the position includes for collaboratively managing all aspects of the daily campus visit program such as greeting prospective students and their families, coordinating classroom visits and overnight stays when requested, working with recruitment staff on group information sessions and individual appointments.

    The successful candidate will have experience with event planning. A bachelor’s degree is required and experience in a college setting is preferred. The desired candidate will also have strong organizational and communication skills.

    Maintenance Technician

    Birmingham-Southern College has an opening for a Maintenance Technician and Locksmith. This position is a part of the Operations department and is responsible for maintaining facilities across the college campus. In addition, this position also manages all locks and keys on campus.   

    Basic knowledge of all phases of mechanical work is required.  Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record.  Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds and be comfortable climbing ladders. High school diploma or equivalent required and 3 to 5 years of experience in a maintenance or mechanical position. Some on call and overtime is required.

    Assistant Professor of Marketing


    Birmingham-Southern College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Marketing position beginning August 2018. The College seeks exceptional candidates committed to its philosophy of liberal education regardless of fields of specialization in marketing.  Candidates should hold a doctorate in Marketing or expect to complete their degree by August 2018. The college seeks individuals who will provide innovative and energetic teaching and who have a publication record in peer-reviewed journals. The successful candidate must be committed to excellence in teaching, ongoing research which can involve undergraduates, contributing to interdisciplinary programs, supporting the Business Administration major, and participation in the general education curriculum.  Teaching responsibilities will include business and marketing courses.  BSC is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute, through their teaching, research, and/or service, to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.

    Assistant Professor in Mathematics

    Birmingham-Southern College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Mathematics beginning fall 2018. The area of specialty is open, though preference will be given to candidates in applied or interdisciplinary fields, including those who are able to contribute to our new Creative and Applied Computing program. The department especially invites candidates who can contribute to the college-wide goal of diversifying our faculty.

    Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in mathematics or a closely related field by August 2018. In your cover letter, please address your interest in teaching at a liberal arts college and how your experiences with teaching, scholarship, and/or service might contribute to a college community whose core values include a commitment to diversity and inclusion. Providing an outstanding undergraduate education is the primary mission of the College, and applicants must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching. The typical teaching load is 3-1-3. The successful candidate will also be expected to maintain continued scholarly activity that engages undergraduate students. All faculty members are expected to participate fully in the life of the department and College through activities such as academic advising and committee service.

    Assistant Professor of Music

    The Birmingham-Southern College Department of Music is accepting applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Music beginning August 2018. The ideal applicant will be an experienced jazz or instrumental conductor,  who will be expected to recruit and direct the jazz band, symphonic band, and pep band.  Depending on qualifications, the candidate will also be able to develop courses in music technology, arranging, and composition. Expertise in other disciplines will be considered. These courses will serve students in Music, Musical Theatre, Media and Film Studies, and Creative and Applied Computing.  The faculty will teach a 3-3 workload, as well as a one-month Exploration Term course in January.

    A doctoral degree in music is required at the time of employment.  Applicants who are ABD must be able to show evidence of completion by August 2018.  The Department of Music is committed to developing new and creative approaches to the undergraduate curriculum.  The candidate must share the common goal of interdisciplinary teaching both in music study and in general education.  The successful candidate will also be expected to maintain continued scholarly activity, and participate fully in the life of the department and College through activities including academic advising and committee service.  They will be joining a department which is intent on providing a supportive environment that values and respects the cultural and personal distinctiveness within the BSC academic community.

    Assistant Professor of Religion

    The Religion Department at Birmingham-Southern College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in Christianity at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 2018. Birmingham-Southern College is a selective undergraduate liberal arts college affiliated with the United Methodist Church and a sheltering institution of Phi Beta Kappa. The College’s curriculum is based on close faculty-student interaction in teaching, advising, and research. The annual teaching load is three classes per semester and an intensive course during January. The successful candidate will develop courses at the introductory and upper levels. While the area of expertise is open, special attention will be given to candidates who frame their research and teaching in interdisciplinary and global contexts and who describe how their teaching and scholarship might support the college’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.

    Applicants with expertise in African-American religious traditions and theology or global Christianities are especially welcome. Ability to contribute to other interdisciplinary programs of the College is highly desirable. The successful teacher/scholar will have an avid interest in pedagogical development, a robust research agenda, and a desire to be an active and engaged citizen of the Birmingham-Southern community as well as a contributing and collegial member of the Religion Department. Eligible candidates must have received their Ph.D.by time of employment.
