Staff Positions Available:


    Academic Programs Assistant

    Birmingham-Southern College has an opening for an Academic Programs Assistant in the Science and Mathematics division. This position will provide administrative support in the academic areas of Biology, Chemistry, Health Professions Program, Mathematics, and Physics. 

    Responsibilities will include managing all departmental correspondence including email distribution lists, maintaining all department files, assisting department chairs in budget administration, and providing administrative assistance to Health Professions Advisor and Committee. This position will also supervise work study students, organize all aspects of Departmental Honors Day awards ceremony, and assist with faculty searches.

    Qualified candidates will have experience in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and keyboarding skills of 55 wpm is required. Must possess excellent communication skills and the ability to multitask.  High school diploma or equivalent is required, some college preferred. Two years of administrative assistant/clerical experience is required.

    Assistant VP for Information Technology

    Birmingham-Southern College has an opening for an Assistant Vice President (AVP) for Information Technology. The AVP assists the Vice President for IT in the strategic management and direction of all IT programs, services and policies.  This position directs and manages the day to day operations of the Network and Telecom Infrastructures, the Helpdesk Services/Call Center and establishes work priorities of subordinates and peers in meeting deadlines of on-going projects. The AVP also serves as the technical lead for the College’s blended learning initiative. 

    The qualified candidate will have experience supervising a campus-wide IT helpdesk and managing multifaceted projects including budget development. Knowledge of large, complex enterprise networks and telecommunication technologies as it relates to a campus environment is essential.  In addition to excellent interpersonal and communication skills, the successful candidate will also have the ability to negotiate complex contracts. Expertise in designing, implementing, and administration over a large, complex enterprise network and security knowledge as it relates to remote secure access is desired.

    A bachelor’s degree in a business or information technology related field plus 7 years of experience including 5 years of experience administrating large enterprise networks is required.

    Customer Service Coordinator

    Birmingham-Southern College has an opening for Customer Service Coordinator for the Office of Financial Aid. This position coordinates the workflow of the Office of Financial Aid and serves as the front-line point of contact. The Coordinator answers all incoming calls and coordinates office traffic flow in support of other Financial Aid staff members. This position helps students and parents understand the financial planning process and what steps are needed to complete it. In addition, the Coordinator is responsible for the supervision, scheduling, and work assignments of departmental work-study students.

    Qualified candidates will have a bachelor’s degree and 2 years of relevant work experience, preferred. Knowledge of MS Word/Excel/Outlook. Strong communication skills. Good customer service skills. Ability to handle work under minimal supervision. Ability to meet deadlines under short/tight time restraints. Ability to organize and manage office traffic.

    Director of Institutional Research and Effectiveness

    Birmingham-Southern College is seeking a Director of Institutional Research and Effectiveness.  The Director reports to the President and supports the President and Senior Team by providing direction and leadership for initiatives related to institutional effectiveness and for implementation of the College’s strategic plan. This position develops and generates data to inform systematic, broad-based, and interrelated planning processes for the educational, administrative and support activities of the College; engages in research to help the president and senior team, as well as all administrative and academic departments of the College; and identifies appropriate outcome measures and benchmarking tools. The Director of Institutional Research and Effectiveness oversees accreditation initiatives to support the mission of the College and serves as liaison to SACS-COC.

    Qualified candidates will have a master’s degree (PhD preferred) in higher education, data analytics, the social sciences, statistics, or a related field, and a minimum of five years of experience in a higher education setting. Candidates must demonstrate in-depth knowledge of research methods and advanced statistical analysis techniques, as well as statistical analysis software; be experienced in identifying, generating and using data for problem solving and decision-making; demonstrate excellent communication, facilitation, and collaboration skills, as well as the ability to engage successfully in college-wide strategic decision-making and planning processes; have highly developed organizational and leadership skills; and have experience in prioritizing multiple and varied projects and initiatives required.

    Located in Birmingham, Alabama, BSC is a four-year, private institution that, in recent years, has been consistently identified as one of the top liberal arts colleges in the country for its academic quality and value. The college currently enrolls almost 1,300 undergraduate students and is a sheltering institution for Phi Beta Kappa.

    Graphic Design Specialist

    Birmingham-Southern College has an opening for Graphic Design Specialist. This position produces quality graphic artwork for publications, web, social media, email and other communication media as needed to serve a range of departments and offices at Birmingham-Southern-College. The Graphic Design Specialist is part of a team of professionals whose mission and purpose is to create positive awareness and understanding about Birmingham-Southern College that enhances its reputation among its audiences and causes each to react in a positive way toward the institution. This position reports to the Director of Communications as part of the Office of Advancement.

    Responsibilities also include managing production of materials, including working directly with external vendors and ensuring clear communication to internal and external audiences regarding BSC brand standards and related policies and procedures

    Bachelor’s degree and at least three years of experience in graphic design, publications management and branding/graphics standards are required. Excellent computer skills required, with expert-level knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Photoshop, Illustrator and the Microsoft Office Suite. Must be able to demonstrate ability to think strategically and creatively, and to work on multiple tasks simultaneously. Photography/videography skills are a plus, as are knowledge of HTML and social media

    The successful candidate will possess a team-oriented work style; self-motivation and multi-tasking skills; the ability to meet deadlines; a fresh creative eye and an eagerness to stay up-to-date on design trends and adapt them to the needs and style of the College.

    Physical Fitness Center Supervisor

    Birmingham-Southern College has an immediate part-time opening for Physical Fitness Center Supervisor to work at the College’s fitness and recreation facility.  Responsibilities include supervising the fitness center, recording hourly usage of the facility, checking equipment in and out, surveying the facility for maintenance needs, and greeting and assisting fitness center guests.

    Scheduled hours are: 6pm-10pm on Wednesday and alternating Tuesdays, 6-8pm on Fridays and once a month from 10am-6pm on Saturday and 2pm-10pm on Sunday.

    A high school diploma or equivalent is required.  Basic knowledge of computers preferred.  Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds. First Aid/ CPR/ AED certification is required and may be obtained after hired. Previous experience in a gym or fitness center helpful.
