    Policy for Individual Faculty and Staff Websites

    Personal web pages belong to individuals – faculty, staff, or students – associated with BSC. Pages pertaining to faculty research or research groups are personal pages.

    Faculty and staff profiles may link to personal web pages that are not housed on the BSC server.

    Personal pages represent the views and opinions of their authors only. It is necessary to distinguish between the official BSC websites, which represent the College, and personal web pages, which may contain individual opinions and other content not related to Birmingham-Southern College.

    A personal page is maintained by that individual for personal or professional information. Personal pages are not housed on a BSC server. The link is provided on the BSC.edu website provided the personal page is related to one’s service to the College. The content of a personal web page is the responsibility of the individual in whose web space it is hosted.

    BSC will not actively monitor or restrict the content of materials published on faculty and staff personal pages and will only review these pages reactively (for example, in the event a complaint is made).

    BSC reserves the right to remove the link to an account from a faculty or staff member’s profile page or refuse to provide a link from the main site at any time if the site:

    • Does not support the mission or policies of Birmingham-Southern College.
    • Does not adhere to legal and ethical standards governing copyright and intellectual property.
    • Advocates hate, hostility, or violence, or contains offensive material.
    • Is designed for private financial gain or compensation not relevant to the mission of the College or in violation of official BSC policy and restrictions for nonprofit organizations.
    • Content is used to engage in or solicit any illegal activity in violation of federal or state law or  official BSC policy.
    • Upon correction of the infraction(s), BSC Communications may re-link the site after review.
