Brief Career Background:

Dr. Turner obtained his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Georgia working with Professor Henry F. Schaefer, III. In his doctoral research, he studied computational quantum chemistry and specialized in applications of coupled cluster theory. After graduate school, Dr. Turner worked for three years at Georgia Southern University before joining the Birmingham-Southern faculty in 2020. His research interests include combustion chemistry, reaction mechanism elucidation, chemical education, and educational equity.

Educational Background:

B.S. in Chemistry, Samford University 2012
Ph.D. in Chemistry, University of Georgia, 2017

Courses Taught:

CH 101/CH101-L Introductory Chemistry
An introduction to the fundamental principles of chemistry and the importance of chemistry in modern life.

CH 111 SM Atoms and Molecules
A first course in general chemistry that examines the structure of atoms and molecules. Topics include components of matter, atomic structure, periodic trends, bonding and molecular structure, chemical reactions, stoichiometry, behavior of gases, and thermochemistry.

CH 112 Reactions and Mechanisms
A continuation of general chemistry that builds on the foundations established in CH 111. Topics include intermolecular forces, colligative properties, thermodynamics, equilibrium, electrochemistry, and kinetics.
