When you're a student at BSC, we may

use your photograph or video images

for promotional materials online, in

publications, in advertisements, and

elsewhere electronically and in print.

If you prefer not to be included, you

must complete the enclosed media

opt-out form and submit it in person

to the Office of Communications on

the ground floor of the Stockham

Building when you come to campus

this fall. At that time, you must have

a photograph taken for our files so we

can identify those opting out. If you

The Family Education Rights and

Privacy Act (FERPA) affords certain

rights to students concerning the

privacy of their education records.

Please complete the FERPA form

included in this packet and indicate

if you authorize any third parties,

typically parents or guardians, to have

access to your education records.

We know putting together your first course schedule is daunting. That’s

why we’ve taken care of the process for you. We try to match you with the

courses that fit both your interests and BSC's degree requirements. Most

likely, we will schedule you for three units—three one-unit courses—during

your first term to help with your transition to college. Taking three units in

the fall is a full load and won't slow your track to graduation, but you may add

a fourth course during Fall Orientation if you choose. After your first term,

you should take four units each fall and spring. During your first year, you are

encouraged to:

• Broaden your knowledge by taking courses in disciplines you have not

studied. Now is a great time to experience something new.

• Prepare for college level work by taking an Explorations in Scholarship

(ES) seminar. These courses are specifically designed for and limited to

first-year students. You are required to take one Explorations in Scholarship

course during your first year, either in the fall or spring term. You will rank

your choices for ES courses separately when you submit your preferences.

• Explore possible majors by taking introductory courses in several different
