Placement Exams

Placement Exams

Placement exams should be completed as soon as possible so that we can finalize your schedule for fall term. These exams are taken on-line at your convenience.

If you plan to take Spanish, Chinese, or Music Theory during fall term, you need to complete the appropriate exams before May 15, 2022.

Spanish or Chinese: If you have taken any courses in Spanish or Chinese, you need to take the corresponding placement exam before you continue studies in that language.

The exam takes about 10 minutes to complete and is available at http://bit.ly/2MJi2Fd. Once we have your test results, we will communicate with your Academic Advisor regarding the appropriate level of study for you.

If you have any questions, contact Barbara Domcekova at [email protected].

Music Theory: If you are an incoming student who is considering a major/minor in Music or Musical Theatre, you will need to take Music Theory.  For appropriate placement, you should take the Music Theory Diagnostic Exam to determine which course would be best for you.

To take the exam, follow these steps:

  • The exam can be found on Moodle, our online course information system.
  • Use your email login to enter Moodle.
  • Once in Moodle, type "Music Theory Diagnostic" in the course search box.
  • Select the course "Music Theory Diagnostic" and enroll in the course.
  • Click on the exam and follow the instructions.
  • The online exam consists of 18 multiple-choice questions.
  • You will have 30 minutes to complete the exam.
  • For proper placement, avoid guessing or consulting other materials.
  • Make sure to submit your answers; there will be a prompt for it.
  • If you get above 70%, you have the option to enroll in MU 151.
If you get below 70%, you should enroll in MU 150. If a student receives a borderline score please contact Dr. Grall.
