Health Services

Health Services

Health Services provides health care and education to all BSC students through our own medical staff and our partnership with Cahaba Medical Care (CMC), a local comprehensive medical care organization with numerous clinics in central Alabama.

Ms. Yvette Spencer, R.N., Director of Health Services, handles many minor health problems and injuries, simple lab work, vaccinations, and other basic services at no cost to students.

Students often need referrals for further medical care which can be conveniently completed within the Health Services suite by seeing the nurse practitioner stationed with the CMC clinic there. Essentially, BSC has an urgent-care clinic on campus managed by CMC. Additional services available include illnesses where prescriptions are needed, further medical tests, annual wellness visits, management of chronic diseases, medication refills, and various screenings, among the many other needs for which individuals visit these types of clinics. A visit to the CMC clinic requires a co-pay, and potential further costs depending on the care needed, similar to any medical clinic you may visit. CMC works with individuals who need to make payment arrangements and can discuss those with students at the time of care.

To allow us to serve students' medical needs effectively, we need to know certain medical information. We gather that information through several documents, including your health insurance card, your immunization record, and information you’ll provide in an online questionnaire. ALL information is required of ALL new students.

Student Health Information TO DO LIST.

Step One: Before beginning, please have a copy of the front and back of your insurance card and your immunization record ready to upload. If exempt from immunizations, you will need to provide the appropriate exemption form.

Step Two: Begin completing the student health information questionnaire. This is an online form that a student fills out using BSC username and password to log in. NOTE: if an error occurs, sign out of other email clients and try to fill out the form again.

Step Three: Near the end of the questionnaire, upload your immunization record at the appropriate question, or your exemption form.

Step Four: At the end of the questionnaire, upload a copy of the front and back of your insurance card. If you are from out of state, make sure your insurance is accepted in the state of Alabama. If not, you may want to acquire additional coverage. Please contact us with any questions or concerns regarding your health insurance.

Step Five: Submit the questionnaire once all items are answered and relevant documents uploaded. Your Panther Checklist will eventually turn to a green checkmark once all information and documents have been reviewed to ensure completion.

** If a student has an exemption from a childhood immunization/vaccine (not COVID vaccine) please email Health Services at [email protected] or call 205-226-4717 to obtain the exemption form.

Student-athletes are also required to submit Athletic Physical Paperwork. These forms are submitted in addition to the Student Health Information referenced above. A DocuSign link along with instructions will be sent directly to student-athletes from Alyssa Welborn, Head Athletic Trainer. Email: [email protected].
