11) Barred Owl

This owl is much larger than the screech owl. Usually, it is nocturnal, but sometimes it will move around during the daytime, particularly after periods of inclement weather when it cannot hunt. It is sometimes known as the eight-hooter, and its call has been described as someone saying, "who cooks for you, who cooks for you all." It has a loud demonic call that can reverberate throughout our woodlands. It feeds on small rodents, snakes, lizards, and insects.
