Courses Repeated Policy
A student who has received a grade of "C-" or below in a course may repeat the course under the following conditions:
- Courses may be repeated only by courses taken at BSC or at the same college/university where the courses were originally taken.
- Before a course taken elsewhere may be repeated, the Dean of Records and the chair of the appropriate department must approve the choice of the course to be taken.
- Registration for repeated courses must be processed in the Records Office rather than online.
Registration Instructions for Contracts
All contracts, tutorials, and individualized courses ending with 93, 97, 99 must be registered through the Contract Learning Center and should be entered on a separate course plan form. The deadline for registering for contracts (except internships) is the same as other courses.
Schedule Changes After Registration
A student who has pre-registered for a term, may add or drop courses on the confirmation registration dates. After that time, schedule changes are made through the Records Office. A fee of $20 is charges for each change after the second week of class unless the change is at the request of the College. Schedule changes after the first week of class require the signature of the instructor on a hard copy registration form. No course can be added after the first two weeks of a regular term (fall and spring) or after the first week of a summer term.
Veteran Benefits Information
All Veterans receiving financial benefits must see the Office of Student Financial Aid in the Student Services Building prior to each term to review their enrollment status. This procedure will expedite your payments and reduce delays in processing.

Student Financial Aid Services
Students must be enrolled for three (12.0 semester hours) or more units to be considered for scholarships at Birmingham-Southern College.
This is also a requirement for a full-time Pell Grant and Alabama Student Grant. Eligible students must be enrolled for a minimum of 1.5 units (6 semester hours) to be considered for a partial Pell and/or Alabama Student Grant. Click here to visit the BSC Financial Aid Office home page.
How to request an enrollment certification or verification
You may use our online request form, or requests should be mailed or hand delivered to:
Office of Academic Records
Birmingham-Southern College
P.O. Box 549018
Birmingham, Alabama 35254
The Office of Academic Records is located in the Student Services Building on the southeast corner of campus.
Students whose education is financed in whole or in part by guaranteed loans or students wishing to use a good student discount usually require the Office of Academic Records to certify term and annual enrollment to the lending agencies and their agents in order to defer repayment.
Please bring or mail your request or form to our office. Hand delivered requests can be handled on the same day. Please allow 10 days for mailed-in forms.
Parents, FERPA and grades
FERPA assumes that all students are independent students; therefore, parents cannot be given information on their son/daughter without the student’s written permission. Parents with questions concerning their son or daughter should contact the Office of Academic Records at 205-226-4677.
As of the fall 2004, and in compliance with FERPA, the college will no longer mail grades to parents. However, parents should be aware of the TheSIS system on the web. If students choose, they may share their login and password with parents. This would enable parents to view student information via the TheSIS system and still be in compliance with FERPA.
