BACHE

The Birmingham Area Consortium for Higher Education

The BACHE Cooperative Course Exchange Program dramatically expands the variety of course offerings available to students within the Consortium's colleges and universities which include Birmingham-Southern College, Samford University, University of Alabama at Birmingham, University of Montevallo and Miles College.

Full-time students enrolled at a BACHE Institution who are in good academic standing at the home campus may, with written permission from their academic advisor and Dean and at no additional charge, take a course at another BACHE campus if it is deemed to be beneficial to the student's overall educational program.

The Asian Studies Program

Created from courses taught on the four BACHE campuses, the interdisciplinary Asian Studies curriculum provides the student many perspectives on Asian societies which are useful in graduate study and careers in such diverse fields as:

        • International Business
        • Government Service
        • Banking
        • Marketing
        • Law
        • Education
        • Journalism

The Asian Studies curriculum is particularly relevant today for its emphases on the changing traditions of Asia, the contemporary problems faced by the nations of Asia, and the complex relationships between Asian nations and between Asia and the West. Courses offered in the curriculum cover East, South, and Southeast Asia. For information on this program, contact Dr. Matthew Levey, Director of Asian Program, Birmingham-Southern College, (205) 226-4867.

BACHE Library Cooperation

Students, faculty, and staff at BACHE institutions may access the resources of all the member libraries by simply presenting their valid I.D. cards. It is best for students to discuss research projects first with the reference staff at their home institution's library before using other member libraries. The rules and regulations of the lending library are in effect and must be respected.

If you have questions regarding the BACHE program please contact the Office of Academic Records at 226-4697. We are located in the Student Services Building.
