Family Weekend 2012

 

We are excited for Family Weekend 2012. Below you will find a snap shot of the schedule for the weekend as well as the registration link.

Keep checking the Family Weekend 2012 webpage for up to date information. We are excited to have you on the Hilltop. See you March 30-31, 2012.

Each participant will receive a Birmingham-Southern Family Weekend 2012 t-shirt, included in their registration packet.

Online registration for Family Weekend is now closed. However, you may register onsite so we hope you will still plan to attend the festivities.  Please contact Misty Fingar, mfingar@bsc.edu or 205-226-4730 if you have any questions. We look forward to seeing you on Friday.

Norton Open House for All Families and Students
Sponsored by the Office of Student Affairs, Student Government Association, and Parent's Fund

Please join us for some refreshments and a chance to meet some of the Student Development staff members and others who work with your students outside.

Location: 2nd floor of Norton Campus Center

Stop by and meet some of the faculty with whom your students interact. Please refer to the Academic Open House locations in your registration packet.

10:00am-12:00pm Financial Aid Individual meetings
These meetings were previously scheduled through the Office of Financial Aid. Should you need to speak with a representative from the Financial Aid office, please visit them in the Student Services building.
11:00am-12:00pm Faculty Individual Meetings
These meetings were previously scheduled through the Provost’s Office.  We encourage you to see faculty members at the Academic Open Houses.

Leadership and Advocacy--Summer Internship Opportunities and the DLS Program
Presented by: Hess Center for Leadership and Service Advocacy Fellows
Learn about paid summer internships with local and national nonprofit advocacy agencies. Available for rising juniors and seniors, Hess Fellows research and educate others on public policy and social needs. Information on the Distinction in Leadership Studies program will also be presented.

Exploration Term, Independent Contracts, and Post baccalaureate Scholarships
Presented by: Katy Leonard, Director of Exploration Term and Contract Learning
Discover recent and future on and off campus Exploration Term projects, including planned study-travel projects for Exploration Term 2013. Learn about the independently contracted projects BSC students have created and how a student might create his/her own. Hear about post baccalaureate scholarship and fellowship opportunities available to BSC students and how students may prepare themselves to apply for these programs.

Who IS this Person? Understanding the Changes Your Student May Have Experienced During Their First Year Of College
Presented by: Sara Hoover, Director of Counseling & Health Services and Jason Peevy, Counselor/Coordinator of Academic Accommodations
You learned to "let them go" but now they are flying back in for a break! Your student's first year of college has been filled with many opportunities for self-discovery, independence, and growth. Living under the same roof again, even for a short time after the first academic year can be a transition for both students and families. This session will offer input as to some of those changes your student may have experienced and how you as family members might consider preparing for their return home for the summer break.

If you are interested in scheduling a 10-15 minute appointment with a member of our Financial Aid staff, please contact the Office of Financial Aid at finaid@bsc.edu by Wednesday, March 28, 2012. (Please include "Family Weekend appointment" in the subject line of your email). Appointment times will be scheduled between 10:00am-12:00pm on Saturday, March 31, 2012, in the Office of Financial Aid located in the Student Services building.
