Nora Naranjo MorseSculptor and poet to deliver PBK Lecture
Birmingham-Southern College will host Nora Naranjo Morse, an award-winning sculptor, writer, and producer of film that looks at the continuing social changes within Pueblo Indian culture, on Thursday, April 6, as part of this year’s Phi Beta Kappa Visiting Scholar Program.

Spring choir tour kicks off
The BSC Concert Choir and Hilltop Singers are appearing in Alabama, Kentucky, Indiana, and Illinois for their spring tour, March 22-26. The groups are singing at area high schools during the day and performing at churches during the evenings.

College named Alabama’s top film school by ICX Media
Birmingham-Southern College has been ranked No. 1 in Alabama by ICX Media in its first annual ranking of top U.S. film schools in each state.

BSC student featured for work coaching special athlete
Junior Owen Ferguson was highlighted in local media for his volunteer efforts to coach a 10-year-old boy hoping to compete in the World Dwarf Games. Ferguson, a business major, has been working with Aidan and other young athletes for a couple of years; he has even enlisted his fraternity brothers to come cheer at games.

'Southern hosting international philosophy meeting
Some 175 philosophers from as far away as Japan will be in the city March 16-18 when the college hosts the 44th annual meeting of the Society for the Advancement of American Philosophy at the Doubletree by Hilton. The BSC One-A-Chord Gospel Choir will perform at the conference’s banquet on Saturday. Featured speakers include Evan Milligan ’03 of the Equal Justice Initiative and Rev. Dr. Thandeka, a theologian and journalist.

BSC launches new “Rise to Your Potential” campaign
The college kicked off a new advertising campaign titled “Rise to Your Potential.” The campaign highlights the ways in which BSC propels its students to post-graduate success through its innovative academic programs, hands-on learning, and supportive campus environment.

Annual Stump Lecture set for March 13
Hallie Vanderhider, a well known business leader and executive in the oil and gas industry and private equity market, will deliver Birmingham-Southern’s annual Stump Entrepreneurship Lecture on Monday, March 13 at 7 p.m. in Bruno Great Hall. It is free and open to the public.

BFA Exhibition and opening
Four seniors in the college’s Bachelor of Fine Arts degree program--Brooke Akins, Anna Eggers, Jane Gleissner, and Hailey Kirkley--are exhibiting their original artwork from March 3-23 in the Durbin Gallery. An opening reception will be held in the gallery on March 3 from 6-8 p.m. Events are free and open to the public.
