Financial Planning Process
In order to apply for financial aid for the 2013-14 academic year both new and returning students need to complete and submit the 2013-14 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The priority deadline for submission is March 1st. Both new and returning students will be notified once they have been awarded. New students will receive an award letter in the mail, while returning students will be notified through their BSC email account.
Returning students who are offered a loan as part of their Financial Aid Award Letter, should accept or reject their loan offers in TheSIS. For new students, once deposited, you may accept or reject your loans in TheSIS, as well, or send an email to finaid@bsc.edu asking the Financial Planning staff to accept or reject them on your behalf. If you accept your loans and are a first-time borrower (Direct or PLUS Loan) you must complete/submit an electronic Master Promissory Note (eMPN) at https://www.studentloans.gov. In addition, new first-time borrowers (Direct Loan) are also required to complete entrance counseling at https://www.studentloans.gov.
Verification
Prospective and returning students selected for “verification” will be notified and must provide the following in order to complete the financial aid application process:
- Completed 2013 -14 Verification Worksheet located under Forms on the Financial Planning homepage (after January 1, 2013); AND
- Signed copy of the student’s and parents’ 2012 Federal tax transcript (dependent students) or signed copy of student’s 2012 Federal tax transcript only (independent students).
- Any additional supporting documentation requested by BSC as directed by the Dept. of Education.
