Record-breaking runs—Senior Robert Willett won and set new meet records in the 800-meter and mile runs at the UAB Blazer Indoor Track & Field Invitational held Jan. 10-11 at the Birmingham CrossPlex. The invitational featured some 25 Division III track and field teams from around the Southeast. Willett won his heat in the preliminary 800-meter run with a time of 1:53.46, and the mile of 4:17.01. In the 400-meter dash, Willett was 15th with a time of 50.28 and junior Andrew Archer was 17th with a time of 50.33. “It was a great 2013 opener for all of our athletes that competed this weekend,” Head Coach Kenneth Cox said. “We had a number of solid performances, and the meet allowed us to be a part of an atmosphere that would gauge where we are after the holidays. Robert was incredible and gave his all. Since his freshman year, he has been a hard worker and continues each year to set the tone for our men’s team.” Senior Hank Ballard placed eighth in the pole vault with a mark of 4.35 meters. The Panther women are ranked 20th in the nation, while the men are 33rd. BSC is back in action Jan. 28 at the Emory Invitational, which also will be held at the Birmingham CrossPlex. |
