Hilltop Photo of the WeekWelcome to Birmingham-Southern's “Hilltop Photo of the Week” webpage and archives. Each week at this site, we'll feature a photo that depicts some aspect of life on the Hilltop campus, along with brief information about what is taking place in the Photo of the Week. The college welcomes submissions to be considered for the Hilltop Photo of the Week. Scanned or digital photos can be e-mailed to the Office of Communications at pcole@bsc.edu, or photographic prints may be sent through campus mail to Box 549004. Please limit photo submissions to those that depict some aspect of the BSC experience, and be sure to identify what is taking place in the photo, along with location and people involved. View the Photo of the Week archive here.
Study party—Class lecture notes, projects, readings, and assignments usually spill over into late-night study sessions for Birmingham-Southern students. From left, Jeanna Gover, a sophomore English major and Harrison Honors Scholar from Gurley; Mackenzie Hagen, a sophomore photography major from Carrollton, Ga.; and Jae Claire Hechinger, a sophomore musical theatre major from Memphis; recently held a study party—coupled with favorite snacks—in the Bill and Lyndra Daniel Residence Hall after staring down the barrel of an exam week. “After three months of aching to get back to school, you walk in to your suite during the first week of classes and you remember what BSC is actually like: study, eat, study, sleep, study, study, study, study!” remarked Hechinger. Putting the Watercress Darter in the limelight—Birmingham-Southern students Caroline King of Haleyville (on left) and Kathryn Turner of Dothan worked on their independent senior biology research projects recently at nearby Roebuck Springs. They are studying the environment of the endangered Watercress Darter, a species of fish found only in Jefferson County. The students’ projects are under the supervision of Associate Professor of Biology Dr. Scot Duncan. Photo by Duncan |
