Hilltop Photo of the WeekWelcome to Birmingham-Southern's “Hilltop Photo of the Week” webpage and archives. Each week at this site, we'll feature a photo that depicts some aspect of life on the Hilltop campus, along with brief information about what is taking place in the Photo of the Week. The college welcomes submissions to be considered for the Hilltop Photo of the Week. Scanned or digital photos can be e-mailed to the Office of Communications at pcole@bsc.edu, or photographic prints may be sent through campus mail to Box 549004. Please limit photo submissions to those that depict some aspect of the BSC experience, and be sure to identify what is taking place in the photo, along with location and people involved. Launching a medical career—UAB welcomed dozens of future physicians to its medical program at a White Coat ceremony held recently at the Alys Stephens Center. Six 2012 Birmingham-Southern graduates were among the dozens of first-year students who are matriculating at UAB Medical School. Donning their clinical white coats at the ceremony are (l to r) Amy Banks, Zaki Yazdi, Swaroop Vitta, Shin Xu, Janelle West, and Patrick Rowan. Wil Gilmore, a 2011 graduate of BSC, also is a member of the Class of 2016. Birmingham-Southern had the fourth highest number of alumni matriculating (7 total)—with only UAB, Alabama, and Auburn ahead of it. Each of the medical students were presented with the traditional white coat in the presence of family, friends, faculty, and staff. The coat is a powerful symbol of both professional competence in medicine and human compassion. The ceremony follows the completion of the new students' first class, Patient, Doctor, Society. |
