Hilltop Photo of the Week

Welcome to Birmingham-Southern's “Hilltop Photo of the Week” webpage and archives. Each week at this site, we'll feature a photo that depicts some aspect of life on the Hilltop campus, along with brief information about what is taking place in the Photo of the Week.

The college welcomes submissions to be considered for the Hilltop Photo of the Week. Scanned or digital photos can be e-mailed to the Office of Communications at pcole@bsc.edu, or photographic prints may be sent through campus mail to Box 549004. Please limit photo submissions to those that depict some aspect of the BSC experience, and be sure to identify what is taking place in the photo, along with location and people involved.

The journey begins—The New Student Orientation staff at Birmingham-Southern puts on a four-day program each fall for incoming and transfer students and their families. More than 350 fresh faces arrived on campus recently for the college’s 157th academic year, which began Aug. 29. The orientation schedule kicked off Aug. 25 with Move-in Day, when dozens of upper-class student volunteers and staff (including BSC President Charles Krulak) helped the incoming students move into their residence halls. Other highlights of orientation included a Convocation ceremony, a hypnotist, service learning, dinners, and square dancing. Pictured above, the Pink orientation group prepares for Service in the City. The group, along with many others, traveled to various sites in Birmingham to perform community service. Projects ranged from sorting donations at the Christian Service Mission downtown to cleaning up the Turkey Creek Nature Preserve in the Pinson area. The Pink group was led by student orientation leaders Anna Wilson, a senior; Lauren Lockhart, a senior; and Will King, a sophomore. Pictured below (from left to right) at the square dance event are King as well as student orientation leaders Chelsea Smith, a senior; Courtney Mauck, a senior; and Anna Bodenhammer, a senior.
