BSC Photo of the Week

Hilltop Photo of the Week

Welcome to Birmingham-Southern's “Hilltop Photo of the Week” webpage and archives. Each week at this site, we'll feature a photo that depicts some aspect of life on the Hilltop campus, along with brief information about what is taking place in the Photo of the Week.

The college welcomes submissions to be considered for the Hilltop Photo of the Week. Scanned or digital photos can be e-mailed to the Office of Communications at pcole@bsc.edu, or photographic prints may be sent through campus mail to Box 549004. Please limit photo submissions to those that depict some aspect of the BSC experience, and be sure to identify what is taking place in the photo, along with location and people involved.

A fertile intellectual culture—Four students at Birmingham-Southern got a chance to expand their personal and professional experience this summer through the British Studies at Oxford program in Oxford, England. For six weeks, the students lived and dined in the historic buildings of St. John's College, which is a constituent college of Oxford University. They attended lectures and seminars covering visual arts and architecture, literature, politics, science, religion, and music during the Enlightenment period, from the late 17th to the early 19th century—all for academic credit. The students also toured notable sites throughout England and Europe. Pictured in the Garden Quad at St. John’s College are (from left) Jenny Lewis, a junior; Kate Massey, a senior; Olivia Hayes, a junior; and Anne Wood, a senior. The students received scholarships from Birmingham-Southern and matching funds from the British Studies at Oxford program to help fund their travel. They were accompanied by BSC Professor of English Dr. John Tatter.
