Hilltop Photo of the WeekWelcome to Birmingham-Southern's “Hilltop Photo of the Week” webpage and archives. Each week at this site, we'll feature a photo that depicts some aspect of life on the Hilltop campus, along with brief information about what is taking place in the Photo of the Week. The college welcomes submissions to be considered for the Hilltop Photo of the Week. Scanned or digital photos can be e-mailed to the Office of Communications at pcole@bsc.edu, or photographic prints may be sent through campus mail to Box 549004. Please limit photo submissions to those that depict some aspect of the BSC experience, and be sure to identify what is taking place in the photo, along with location and people involved. Nature exploring—For over a decade, Birmingham-Southern has hosted a program that helps dozens of youngsters from the Westside of Birmingham to boost their learning over the summer. Camp NorthStar, directed by Paul Neville (MPPM ’07), is an academic enrichment day camp developed by NorthStar Youth Ministries in partnership with BSC’s Education Department. The 2012 camp brought 80 youth from low to moderate-income families to the Harbert Building on campus for six weeks this summer. In addition to reading, math, and science taught by BSC education majors, Camp NorthStar students enjoyed swimming lessons, art and nutrition classes, dance, and field trips. Erin Wainwright, a rising senior from Pelham who plays on the Panther women’s basketball team, is shown with a student during a field trip to the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. Wainwright served as the academic instructor for third through fifth graders in the camp and worked with two classes of students for three hours each day. |
