Hilltop Photo of the Week
Welcome to Birmingham-Southern's “Hilltop Photo of the
Week” webpage and archives. Each week at this site, we'll
feature a photo that depicts some aspect of life on the Hilltop campus,
along with brief information about what is taking place in the Photo
of the Week.
The college welcomes submissions to be considered
for the Hilltop Photo of the Week. Scanned or digital photos can
be e-mailed to the
Office of Communications at pcole@bsc.edu, or photographic prints
may be sent through campus mail to Box 549004. Please limit photo submissions
to those that depict some aspect of the BSC experience, and be sure
to identify what is taking place in the photo, along with location
and people involved.

International research—Amy Sessions, a senior biology and French major and Harrison Scholar from Grand Bay, Ala., has spent the summer conducting research at the Institute for Molecular Medicine (FIMM) in affiliation with the University of Helsinki in Finland. She is working in the Wennerberg Group and completing the second half of her senior capstone experience in biology. A native of Grand Bay, Ala., Sessions’ research involves an investigation of a protein called KifC1 that is involved in mitosis and found to be over expressed in certain breast and ovarian cancers in the presence of centrosome amplification. She is studying the effects on cell viability and tumor invasion upon over expression and inhibition of this protein, using breast and ovarian cancer cell lines. Her supervisor this summer has been former BSC Assistant Professor of Biology Gretchen Repasky, who is now senior researcher and coordinator of research training at FIMM.
