Hilltop Photo of the Week
Welcome to Birmingham-Southern's “Hilltop Photo of the
Week” webpage and archives. Each week at this site, we'll
feature a photo that depicts some aspect of life on the Hilltop campus,
along with brief information about what is taking place in the Photo
of the Week.
The college welcomes submissions to be considered
for the Hilltop Photo of the Week. Scanned or digital photos can
be e-mailed to the
Office of Communications at pcole@bsc.edu, or photographic prints
may be sent through campus mail to Box 549004. Please limit photo submissions
to those that depict some aspect of the BSC experience, and be sure
to identify what is taking place in the photo, along with location
and people involved.

Legislative education—To help introduce the recently selected 2011 Hess Fellows to the complexities of advocacy, the Hess Center for Leadership and Service at Birmingham-Southern held its annual Advocacy Panel in Montgomery. The event was held April 8 at the historic Alabama State Capitol building. The students were able to hear from several of the state's advocacy leaders, including VOICES for Alabama's Children and the A+ Education Partnership. Representatives from each organization shared their insights on activism and Alabama politics while answering the fellows' questions about working to achieve systemic change. Shown (from left) are 12 of the 14 Hess Fellows selected this year: Alexa Ruiz; Brittany Herring; John Andrew Young; Sarah Pittman; Lydia Robinson; David Olsen; Patrick Welch; Ethan Wilkinson; Jeanne Jackson, director of leadership and environmental studies at BSC who oversees the Hess Fellows program; Kelsie Overton; Katie Adams; Swaroop Vitta; and Jennifer Commander. Missing from the photo are Crystal Shurett and Danielle Rucker. "The guiding mission of the program is to transform students into advocates for social change, a goal that resonates with the BSC community," said Jackson.
