Hilltop Photo of the Week
Welcome to Birmingham-Southern's “Hilltop Photo of the
Week” webpage and archives. Each week at this site, we'll
feature a photo that depicts some aspect of life on the Hilltop campus,
along with brief information about what is taking place in the Photo
of the Week.
The college welcomes submissions to be considered
for the Hilltop Photo of the Week. Scanned or digital photos can
be e-mailed to the
Office of Communications at pcole@bsc.edu, or photographic prints
may be sent through campus mail to Box 549004. Please limit photo submissions
to those that depict some aspect of the BSC experience, and be sure
to identify what is taking place in the photo, along with location
and people involved.

The fighting arts—More than 60 martial artists came from Georgia and South Carolina April 16 to join the Birmingham-Southern Martial Arts Club for regional testing at the Striplin Center gymnasium on campus. All are members of the Cuong Nhu Oriental Martial Arts Association. They participated in testing for ranks ranging from white belt to first-degree black belt as well as post-test seminars on knife self-defense, animal forms, and 3-D self defense. BSC students Mark Burroughs, a senior, and Robert Mills, a junior, were awarded their brown and green belts, respectively.

A week for Greeks—Each spring, Birmingham-Southern hosts a Greek Week celebration to facilitate cohesion and cooperation between the various Greek organizations on campus. The week began April 11 with daily activities that included a philanthropic book drive and barbecue lunch, and ended April 15 with the Greek Games and Greek Awards. The entire campus community was invited to participate. Traditionally, fraternity and sorority chapters are paired into teams that compete to win points to determine who the Greek Week champions will be. The 2011 winners were Pi Beta Phi sorority (pictured) and Kappa Alpha fraternity.
