Hilltop Photo of the Week
Welcome to Birmingham-Southern's “Hilltop Photo of the
Week” webpage and archives. Each week at this site, we'll
feature a photo that depicts some aspect of life on the Hilltop campus,
along with brief information about what is taking place in the Photo
of the Week.
The college welcomes submissions to be considered
for the Hilltop Photo of the Week. Scanned or digital photos can
be e-mailed to the
Office of Communications at pcole@bsc.edu, or photographic prints
may be sent through campus mail to Box 549004. Please limit photo submissions
to those that depict some aspect of the BSC experience, and be sure
to identify what is taking place in the photo, along with location
and people involved.

Serving up Civil War history—Lincoln Prize-winning historian Dr. George C. Rable was invited to the campus April 12 to keynote the college's commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the start of the Civil War (April 12, 1861). Rable is Professor and Charles G. Summersell Chair in Southern History at the University of Alabama. His speech "Was the Civil War a Holy War?" was inspired by his latest book, God's Almost Chosen Peoples: A Religious History of the American Civil War. For 45-minutes, Rable talked about some of the ways Americans used faith to make sense of everything from the outcome of battles to the issue of slavery. Here, he is signing copies of his recently-released book for two BSC students. Rable is the author of four other books on the war, including Fredericksburg! Fredericksburg!, which won the Lincoln Prize, Jefferson Davis Award, and Douglas Southall Freeman History Award. The event was co-sponsored by the BSC Library and Department of History.
