BSC Photo of the Week

Hilltop Photo of the Week

Welcome to Birmingham-Southern's “Hilltop Photo of the Week” webpage and archives. Each week at this site, we'll feature a photo that depicts some aspect of life on the Hilltop campus, along with brief information about what is taking place in the Photo of the Week.

The college welcomes submissions to be considered for the Hilltop Photo of the Week. Scanned or digital photos can be e-mailed to the Office of Communications at pcole@bsc.edu, or photographic prints may be sent through campus mail to Box 549004. Please limit photo submissions to those that depict some aspect of the BSC experience, and be sure to identify what is taking place in the photo, along with location and people involved.

Celebrating unity—The legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., was recently honored at the 25th annual Unity Breakfast held in downtown Birmingham. Pictured here is Birmingham-Southern senior religion major Hunter Pugh (left) of Montgomery lighting the traditional unity candle along with other students from the Birmingham area. Several members of the BSC Interim in Service-Learning: Woodlawn team attended the breakfast along with Pugh. The Interim project, led by BSC Associate Professor of Psychology Dr. Lynne Trench; Sara Doughton, assistant director of the college's Bunting Center for Engaged Study and Community Action; and Jackie Walker, Bunting Center AmeriCorps Vista, encourages students to explore the east Birmingham community of Woodlawn. Throughout the month, students worked with community partners including the Desert Island Supply Co., YWCA, Mainstreet Birmingham, Community Kitchens, Cornerstone School, and Woodlawn United Methodist Church to better understand the reality of life in Woodlawn as well as their responsibility to the community.
