Hilltop Photo of the Week
Welcome to Birmingham-Southern's “Hilltop Photo of the
Week” webpage and archives. Each week at this site, we'll
feature a photo that depicts some aspect of life on the Hilltop campus,
along with brief information about what is taking place in the Photo
of the Week.
The college welcomes submissions to be considered
for the Hilltop Photo of the Week. Scanned or digital photos can
be e-mailed to the
Office of Communications at pcole@bsc.edu, or photographic prints
may be sent through campus mail to Box 549004. Please limit photo submissions
to those that depict some aspect of the BSC experience, and be sure
to identify what is taking place in the photo, along with location
and people involved.

A global sound—Members of the Birmingham-Southern student group Love Asia recently took part in the Chinese Moon Festival celebration at UAB. The traditional Moon Festival holiday, also known as the Mid-Autumn Festival in China, is held on the 15th day of the eighth month. This is the first year that BSC students participated in the annual festival's celebration performance. At the performance, Love Asia members sang "Beijing Welcomes You" in Mandarin Chinese. The son of BSC Instructor of Chinese Dr. Yahui "Anita" Huang and BSC Lecturer of Philosophy Dr. Dan Coyle also participated in the singing. Yuan Gong, a junior, is serving as this year's president of Love Asia, which is comprised of about 50 students from diverse parts of the world (including China, Taiwan, and France) and faculty members.

Mini cheers—Birmingham-Southern's cheerleaders recently hosted their annual Cheerleading Clinic in the Striplin Fitness Center for youngsters from kindergarten through 5th grade. This year, the clinic had over 25 participants. BSC cheerleaders—about 10 of them—taught the youngsters how to cheer and dance and practice stunts. Pictured in the BSC T-shirt is Mary-Candler Schantz, daughter of Interim President Dr. Mark Schantz. Also shown are Martha Louise Waters (back row, second from left), daughter of Admission Counselor Jennifer Howard Waters '86, and Ana Lowery (back row, in yellow skirt), daughter of Laboratory Manager Isa Delgado.
