BSC Photo of the Week

Hilltop Photo of the Week

Welcome to Birmingham-Southern's “Hilltop Photo of the Week” webpage and archives. Each week at this site, we'll feature a photo that depicts some aspect of life on the Hilltop campus, along with brief information about what is taking place in the Photo of the Week.

The college welcomes submissions to be considered for the Hilltop Photo of the Week. Scanned or digital photos can be e-mailed to the Office of Communications at pcole@bsc.edu, or photographic prints may be sent through campus mail to Box 549004. Please limit photo submissions to those that depict some aspect of the BSC experience, and be sure to identify what is taking place in the photo, along with location and people involved.

Small town, big experience—Members of Birmingham-Southern’s Religious Life group, Wesley Fellowship, recently got away for some playtime and recreation at Camp Sumatanga in Gallant, Ala. The group is pictured here after they trekked up Chandler Mountain in the camp area and picnicked at the overlook. They also visited Creel Chapel and the Cross, walked through Fat Man’s Squeeze, and climbed the lake rocks. Before departing from the camp, the students found a home for a stray dog who had climbed the mountain with them (somewhat hidden in photo). Laura Boyer Sisson ’79, director of church relations at BSC, accompanied the students on the trip. Wesley Fellowship encourages students to grow deeper in their faith through Bible study as well as other activities, programs, and retreats.

Going vertical—On Oct. 8, four Birmingham-Southern students took part in a rappelling trip offered by BSC’s Southern Outdoor Recreation in conjunction with UAB Outdoors. The group joined other students from UAB for an outing to Palisades Park (outside of Oneonta, Ala.) and spent the better part of the day climbing up and down the various rock faces at the park. Pictured is Emily Wallace (foreground), a senior education major and Harrison Scholar, and Kelly Roszczynialski, a junior interdisciplinary biology/psychology major and Harrison Scholar, descending a rock face. The other BSC students who participated were Robert Kadish, a senior biology major and Harrison Scholar, and Katherine Patton, a junior chemistry major.
