BSC Photo of the Week

Hilltop Photo of the Week

Welcome to Birmingham-Southern's “Hilltop Photo of the Week” web page and archives. Each week at this site, we'll feature a photo that depicts some aspect of life on the Hilltop campus, along with brief information about what is taking place in the Photo of the Week.

The college welcomes submissions to be considered for the Hilltop Photo of the Week. Scanned or digital photos can be e-mailed to the Office of Communications at pcole@bsc.edu, or photographic prints may be sent through campus mail to Box 549004. Please limit photo submissions to those that depict some aspect of the BSC experience, and be sure to identify what is taking place in the photo, along with location and people involved.

Family firsts—A recent event on campus brought together Regions Bank executives and Birmingham-Southern alums who work for Regions to meet the more than 40 BSC student recipients of the Regions Scholarships for First Generation College Students. The gathering gave Regions the chance to meet these student recipients, and the students got the opportunity to say “thank you” in person to those who have invested in their futures. Those in attendance included C. Dowd Ritter '69, president and CEO of Regions Financial Corp. and chair of the BSC Board of Trustees, incoming Regions CEO Grayson Hall, and the Executive Council of Regions. The gathering was held in Hulsey Hall of the Admission Welcome Center.

A musical homecoming—The BSC Concert Choir recently concluded its annual spring tour of three Alabama cities and Memphis and is preparing for its Homecoming Concert on Sunday, April 11, at 4 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in downtown Birmingham. Performances of major works will include “Jubilate Deo” by Giovanni Gabrieli, “Making of the Drum” by Bob Chilcott, and “Gloria” by Dan Locklair.  The last work will be accompanied by a double-brass ensemble and multiple percussions. The choir is pictured here performing at First United Methodist Church of Tuscaloosa while on tour. BSC Music Department Chair Dr. James Cook '68 is conducting the Concert Choir while Dr. Lester Seigel '79, Joseph Hugh Thomas Professor of Music and director of choral activities, is enjoying a sabbatical leave.
