BSC Photo of the Week

Hilltop Photo of the Week

Welcome to Birmingham-Southern's “Hilltop Photo of the Week” web page and archives. Each week at this site, we'll feature a photo that depicts some aspect of life on the Hilltop campus, along with brief information about what is taking place in the Photo of the Week.

The college welcomes submissions to be considered for the Hilltop Photo of the Week. Scanned or digital photos can be e-mailed to the Office of Communications at pcole@bsc.edu, or photographic prints may be sent through campus mail to Box 549004. Please limit photo submissions to those that depict some aspect of the BSC experience, and be sure to identify what is taking place in the photo, along with location and people involved.

Snow pal—When a predicted wintery blast hit the city and state Feb. 12, Birmingham-Southern students were out and about to take full advantage of the snow day. After building a pretty hefty–sized snowman at the college's intramural fields, BSC students (from left) Katie Leatherbury, Helen Marchman, Sara Bowen, and Rebecca Broussard named their icy artwork “Grandpa Joe.”

A chance to shine—The Hill Recital Hall will be filled with music Sunday, Feb. 28, when three Birmingham-Southern student musicians who were selected as winners of the college's 9th annual Whittington Music Competition appear as soloists with the Red Mountain Chamber Orchestra. The concert will begin at 3 p.m. on the campus. The orchestra will be conducted by Les Fillmer, chairman emeritus of the Alabama School of Fine Arts Department of Music, and will accompany (from left) Wei Dai, a junior piano performance major from Xiamen, China; Iris Reddick, a freshman cello performance major from Memphis; and Hannah Ellington (not pictured), a junior voice performance major from Indian Springs. The highly competitive Whittington Music Competition is named for Frances and Dorsey Whittington, who were leaders of the Birmingham Conservatory of Music, which later became the Music Department at BSC.
