Hilltop Photo of the WeekWelcome to Birmingham-Southern's “Hilltop Photo of the Week” web page and archives. Each week at this site, we'll feature a photo that depicts some aspect of life on the Hilltop campus, along with brief information about what is taking place in the Photo of the Week. The college welcomes submissions to be considered for the Hilltop Photo of the Week. Scanned or digital photos can be e-mailed to the Office of Communications at bwagnon@bsc.edu, or photographic prints may be sent through campus mail to Box 549004. Please limit photo submissions to those that depict some aspect of the BSC experience, and be sure to identify what is taking place in the photo, along with location and people involved. Nurturing creative play—Young actors and actresses from Birmingham-Southern's annual Theatre Arts Camp recently took what they learned this summer to the stage for an end-of-camp production. The play they performed was A Lesson Learned, written by camp instructor Jeanmarie Collins. Set in the Deep South, in an undetermined period, the story is of the prestigious Pickett family, and their relationship with one another, the town, their employees, and a particular family they have wronged in the past. Pictured performing (from left to right) are Eva Byrum, the daughter of BSC College and Special Events Director Chris Byrum; Ben Claude, the son of BSC Associate Professor of Chemistry Laura Stultz; Clare Taylor; Claire Jones, the daughter of BSC alumna Deborah Brown Jones '84; Rebecca Victory, the daughter of BSC Conservatory Director Lucy Victory; McKenzie Harris; and Hunter Mahaffey, the son of BSC Shipping and Receiving Clerk Jim Mahaffey. The camp had 11 students (nine were local) ranging in age from 11-16 and representing nine schools. The camp runs for 14 days during the month of June and includes theater instruction combined with intense rehearsal. |
