Hilltop Photo of the Week
Welcome to Birmingham-Southern's “Hilltop Photo of the
Week” web page and archives. Each week at this site, we'll
feature a photo that depicts some aspect of life on the Hilltop campus,
along with brief information about what is taking place in the Photo
of the Week.
The college welcomes submissions to be considered
for the Hilltop Photo of the Week. Scanned or digital photos can
be e-mailed to the
Office of Communications at bwagnon@bsc.edu, or photographic prints
may be sent through campus mail to Box 549004. Please limit photo submissions
to those that depict some aspect of the BSC experience, and be sure
to identify what is taking place in the photo, along with location
and people involved.

Learning the tools of leadership—A group of 25 rising high school seniors spent a week at Birmingham-Southern recently as part of the Student Leaders in Service program, designed to enhance leadership development, including community service. The group visited and worked with many of Birmingham's nonprofit groups such as the YWCA, Meals on Wheels, Pathways women's shelter, Camp NorthStar, and Urban Kids. Not only did the students serve meals, tidy food pantries, and mentor youth, they also advocated for a $1,000 grant that BSC's Bunting Center for Engaged Study and Community Action awarded to Highland United Methodist Church's Project ID, which assists the area's homeless in obtaining identification cards. In the photo above, Pathways Outreach Coordinator Sara Chestnut (standing in doorway) shows SLS participants and counselors a classroom where the children of homeless women learn and play. In the photo below, they help serve hot meals during a visit to the BSC community partner Urban Ministry.
