BSC Photo of the Week

Photo of the Week

Welcome to Birmingham-Southern's “Hilltop Photo of the Week” web page and archives. Each week at this site, we'll feature a photo that depicts some aspect of life on the Hilltop campus, along with brief information about what is taking place in the Photo of the Week.

The college welcomes submissions to be considered for the Hilltop Photo of the Week. Scanned or digital photos can be e-mailed to the Office of Communications at bwagnon@bsc.edu, or photographic prints may be sent through campus mail to Box 549004. Please limit photo submissions to those that depict some aspect of the BSC experience, and be sure to identify what is taking place in the photo, along with location and people involved.

Haunted Hilltop—There was no shortage of Halloween happenings on the Birmingham-Southern campus Oct. 31 to celebrate the ghoulish holiday. BSC students Channing Kennedy, Sarah Kloewer, and Jessie Wagner (pictured in top photo, from left) prepare a “brew” to welcome more than 1,000 trick-or-treaters to the traditional Halloween on the Hilltop event which took place on the Residence Hall Quad. The college's Panhellenic Council—the governing body for campus sororities—sponsors the event each year for the children of faculty and staff, as well as students from nearby schools. The council, along with the Residence Life Department, fraternities, and other student groups on campus, set up booths of games and goodies, a haunted house, trick-or-treating in a residence hall, and a costume contest for the children. Also that day, the college's Bookstore held a Halloween open house, BSC Professor of Music Dr. James Cook performed a nighttime organ spooktacular, and several campus departments celebrated with food, candy, and pumpkins. In the photo below, Jeff Sherrell, manager of donor information at BSC, shows off his cool pumpkin carving.
