Hilltop Photo of the Week

Welcome to Birmingham-Southern’s “Hilltop Photo of the Week” web page and archives. Each week at this site, we’ll feature a photo that depicts some aspect of life on the Hilltop campus, along with brief information about what is taking place in the Photo of the Week.

The college welcomes submissions to be considered for the Hilltop Photo of the Week. Scanned or digital photos can be e-mailed to the Office of Communications at bwagnon@bsc.edu, or photographic prints may be sent through campus mail to Box 549004. Please limit photo submissions to those that depict some aspect of the BSC experience, and be sure to identify what is taking place in the photo, along with location and people involved.

Drama partnership—The Department of Theatre and Dance at Birmingham-Southern is counting down to its world premiere performance in August of an adaptation of August Strindberg’s 1888 play Miss Julie at the International Fringe Festival in Scotland. Miss Julie is the daughter of a wealthy modern-day businessman, a wild child who has just broken off her engagement. The debut production, set in the South and adapted by BSC Professor of Theatre Alan Litsey, will open with nine performances August 3-11 at a venue in Edinburgh, Scotland. The 75-minute play, supported by two grants, serves as a model for collaborative research and creativity. Collaborating on the project are six BSC students, three faculty members, and one staff person. The new adaptation will be performed on campus Sept. 20-23. Pictured in this scene from the play are student actors Kate Jenkins, a 2007 graduate from Vestavia Hills, who is playing the role of Miss Julie, and Mac Smith, a sophomore from Auburn, who is portraying the character of John.
