Hilltop Photo of the Week

Welcome to Birmingham-Southern’s “Hilltop Photo of the Week” web page and archives. Each week at this site, we’ll feature a photo that depicts some aspect of life on the Hilltop campus, along with brief information about what is taking place in the Photo of the Week.

The college welcomes submissions to be considered for the Hilltop Photo of the Week. Scanned or digital photos can be e-mailed to the Office of Communications at bwagnon@bsc.edu, or photographic prints may be sent through campus mail to Box 549004. Please limit photo submissions to those that depict some aspect of the BSC experience, and be sure to identify what is taking place in the photo, along with location and people involved.

Honors Day 2007—Jill Balch Coon (center), a 1992 Birmingham-Southern graduate and director of education and programs for the nonprofit organization ENACT Inc., returned to campus in April to deliver the Honors Day Convocation address. Honors Day is a campus-wide celebration of the year’s academic accomplishments at BSC. The annual event includes a processional of graduating seniors and faculty in cap and gown to the Convocation, followed by brunch and afternoon demonstrations of scholarship and creative works by students and faculty. Coon spoke on the topic “You’re the Inspiration,” where she shared how she was inspired by faculty and peers as an undergraduate student at BSC and how she is inspired by the students that she works with every day. In her current position at ENACT, she uses creative drama and drama therapy techniques to teach social and emotional skills to New York City public school students and their families. Shown with Coon just prior to her keynote address are BSC President Dr. David Pollick and Provost Dr. Kathleen Murray.
