BSC Photo of the Week

Hilltop Photo of the Week

Welcome to Birmingham-Southern's “Hilltop Photo of the Week” web page and archives. Each week at this site, we'll feature a photo that depicts some aspect of life on the Hilltop campus, along with brief information about what is taking place in the Photo of the Week.

The college welcomes submissions to be considered for the Hilltop Photo of the Week. Scanned or digital photos can be e-mailed to the Office of Communications at bwagnon@bsc.edu, or photographic prints may be sent through campus mail to Box 549004. Please limit photo submissions to those that depict some aspect of the BSC experience, and be sure to identify what is taking place in the photo, along with location and people involved.

A little fun with a rake—Sophomore Henry Palmer of Opelika, a member of the BSC orientation staff, pauses for a bit of frolic while working on the grounds outside local Woodrow Wilson Elementary School. More than 100 students from Birmingham-Southern traveled to Woodrow Wilson during the college's Fall Orientation on Aug. 27 to do some landscaping and meet representatives from the school. Transfer and freshman students enjoyed the opportunity to see parts of their new neighborhood and meet student coordinators involved with the college's ongoing local service-learning projects. Woodrow Wilson and Birmingham-Southern have been Partners in Education since 1996. In addition to tutoring and mentoring opportunities at Woodrow Wilson, BSC students work with First Light Women's Shelter, Woodlawn High School, Urban Kidz after school program, FocusFirst preschool eye-screening, Meals on Wheels, and International Tutoring. For more information about these projects, contact the Office of Service-Learning at 226-4993.
