BSC Photo of the Week

Hilltop Photo of the Week

Welcome to Birmingham-Southern's “Hilltop Photo of the Week” web page and archives. Each week at this site, we'll feature a photo that depicts some aspect of life on the Hilltop campus, along with brief information about what is taking place in the Photo of the Week.

The college welcomes submissions to be considered for the Hilltop Photo of the Week. Scanned or digital photos can be e-mailed to the Office of Communications at bwagnon@bsc.edu, or photographic prints may be sent through campus mail to Box 549004. Please limit photo submissions to those that depict some aspect of the BSC experience, and be sure to identify what is taking place in the photo, along with location and people involved.

Building relationships—Several Birmingham-Southern students visited and worshiped with parishioners of Rehobeth Baptist Church March 19 during the church's annual Homecoming Sunday. The church in Lawley, Ala., was destroyed by arson on Feb. 3. The students say they were greeted with “warm hugs and smiles.” After attending the worship service, the students enjoyed a covered dish meal with church members, complete with the college's famous Mrs. Martha's Rolls which were brought to the meal by the BSC contingent. Shown above are (from left) church member Elizabeth Lawley; Jeremy Burgess, a sophomore psychology major from Homewood; Rev. Duane Schliep; Mary Page Wilson, a sophomore biology major from Albertville; and Emmy Corey, a sophomore English major from Chattanooga, Tenn.

Birmingham-Southern has pledged to help rebuild the 10 rural Alabama churches that were either damaged or destroyed by arson last month. The college currently is forming a team of faculty, staff, and students for each church. The teams will visit their appointed church in the coming weeks to attend a worship service, establish relationships with the church members, and begin conversations as to how the college can assist in the restoration efforts. To date, more than $80,000 has been pledged or contributed to the Alabama Churches Rebuilding and Restoration Fund established by BSC.
