BSC Photo of the Week

Hilltop Photo of the Week

Welcome to Birmingham-Southern's “Hilltop Photo of the Week” web page and archives. Each week at this site, we'll feature a photo that depicts some aspect of life on the Hilltop campus, along with brief information about what is taking place in the Photo of the Week.

The college welcomes submissions to be considered for the Hilltop Photo of the Week. Scanned or digital photos can be e-mailed to the Office of Communications at bwagnon@bsc.edu, or photographic prints may be sent through campus mail to Box 549004. Please limit photo submissions to those that depict some aspect of the BSC experience, and be sure to identify what is taking place in the photo, along with location and people involved.

A Healing Garden—High school students from Toronto plant herbs and flowers in the Southern Environmental Center's new Healing Garden for the elderly located five minutes from campus on 10th Street Southwest and Tuscaloosa Avenue across from Princeton Baptist Medical Center. The students lived and worked in Birmingham for a week through the YouthWorks program, a North American youth mission organization dedicated to providing youth aged 12-19 with Christ-centered mission opportunities through churches and faith-based organizations. Across the continent, more than 38,000 youth are participating in such activities this summer. The SEC's Healing Garden is the first facility of its kind in Alabama and features herbs, fruit trees, and flowers traditionally grown in the '40s and '50s. The front fence is designed to resemble the famous Gee's Bend quilt patterns. The center of the garden will feature a kinetic water sculpture designed by BSC Assistant Professor of Art Jim Neel. Summer Scholars and BSC students assisted in the construction of the park, which will be dedicated Monday, July 11, at 9:30 a.m.
