Hilltop Photo of the Week Welcome to Birmingham-Southern's “Hilltop Photo of the Week” web page and archives. Each week at this site, we'll feature a photo that depicts some aspect of life on the Hilltop campus, along with brief information about what is taking place in the Photo of the Week. The college welcomes submissions to be considered for the Hilltop Photo of the Week. Scanned or digital photos can be e-mailed to the Office of Communications at bwagnon@bsc.edu, or photographic prints may be sent through campus mail to Box 549004. Please limit photo submissions to those that depict some aspect of the BSC experience, and be sure to identify what is taking place in the photo, along with location and people involved. View the Photo of the Week archive here.
Officer Berte—Retiring Birmingham-Southern President Dr. Neal R. Berte (front, center) was made an honorary lifetime member of the college's Campus Police Department during a surprise ceremony outside Munger Hall May 18. Campus Police Chief Randy Youngblood (front, right) and Vice President for Business and Finance Dr. Wayne Echols (front, left) adopted a resolution honoring Berte, who also was presented with a BSC Campus Police shield and hat. Under Berte's leadership, the Campus Police Department has grown to an 18-person force that ensures safety and provides service to the campus community 24 hours a day, 365 days a year at a staffing ratio of 9.5 officers per 1,000 people on campus, which is well above the national staffing ratio recommendations. Berte is retiring June 30 after nearly 29 years as Birmingham-Southern's president, but will continue to assist the college in his role as Chancellor.
