BSC Photo of the Week

Hilltop Photo of the Week

Welcome to Birmingham-Southern's “Hilltop Photo of the Week” web page and archives. Each week at this site, we'll feature a photo that depicts some aspect of life on the Hilltop campus, along with brief information about what is taking place in the Photo of the Week.

The college welcomes submissions to be considered for the Hilltop Photo of the Week. Scanned or digital photos can be e-mailed to the Office of Communications at bwagnon@bsc.edu, or photographic prints may be sent through campus mail to Box 549004. Please limit photo submissions to those that depict some aspect of the BSC experience, and be sure to identify what is taking place in the photo, along with location and people involved.

A plethora of pen pals—Birmingham-Southern College and the University of Cape Town in South Africa have built a partnership that offers BSC students and faculty the opportunity for educational exchange. The partnership has opened doors locally as well, including collaboration on international human rights with the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute and a pen pal project that has linked a fourth-grade class from nearby Woodrow Wilson Elementary School with a classroom of fourth-grade children in Cape Town. Since August, Kelly DeLoach, a sophomore history major from Homewood, and Anne Ledvina, the college's associate director of international programs, have spearheaded the pen pal project that combines bi-weekly cultural and historical sessions on South Africa with letter and package exchanges with the children in Cape Town. Shown here are BSC students and staff with the students from Woodrow Wilson when they recently visited the Robert R. Meyer Planetarium on the BSC campus to view “Starwatchers of Africa,” a new planetarium show obtained because of the college's relationship with South Africa.
