BSC Photo of the Week

Hilltop Photo of the Week

Welcome to Birmingham-Southern's “Hilltop Photo of the Week” web page and archives. Each week at this site, we'll feature a photo that depicts some aspect of life on the Hilltop campus, along with brief information about what is taking place in the Photo of the Week.

The college welcomes submissions to be considered for the Hilltop Photo of the Week. Scanned or digital photos can be e-mailed to the Office of Communications at bwagnon@bsc.edu, or photographic prints may be sent through campus mail to Box 549004. Please limit photo submissions to those that depict some aspect of the BSC experience, and be sure to identify what is taking place in the photo, along with location and people involved.

GETTING READY TO ROLL—Amanda Bowen prepares to drive a van load of play balls from the campus to an after-school program for children at Birmingham's Urban Ministry. A 2001 Birmingham-Southern graduate in sociology/psychology, Bowen is the coordinator of Urban Kids, the Ministry's after-school care program.

A local company found itself overstocked with the balls and intended to destroy them. That's when Betsy McLeod stepped in. The senior political science major from Northport persuaded the company to deliver the balls to BSC. In November, an 18-wheel truck rolled into campus to deliver more than 1,100 balls (boxed up) to the Simpson Building for the Office of Service Learning to distribute to children in the local community.
