BSC announces new Alumni Board president, members

For Immediate Release
Aug. 24, 2016

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--Birmingham-Southern College has restructured its Alumni Board, adding chapters around the country to reflect the broad representation of BSC graduates.

"Sixty of the college's outstanding and accomplished alumni have been named to the board," said BSC Senior Vice President for Advancement Joe Dean, Jr. "The new Alumni Board is representative of our loyal and dedicated alumni in Alabama and across the country who represent many successful careers and diverse interests and who love their alma mater and want to support its future."

Trey Echols, president and CEO of Highland Associates, has been named president of the new board. Echols, a 1996 graduate of BSC who majored in finance, also has served on the college's Norton Board, which for more than 40 years has connected students with experts and professionals for experiential learning opportunities.

"We all know what a powerful role Birmingham-Southern alumni play here in Birmingham and in Alabama in general," Echols said. "However, I have lived in Chicago and in Charlotte, N.C., and our alumni are also making an impact in those cities as well, and we all have BSC to thank for our success. Serving on the Alumni Board is a great way for us to give back to our alma mater and to help raise the college's profile across our state and nation."

President Linda Flaherty-Goldsmith said that the new Alumni Board will fulfill an important role for BSC as ambassadors for the college helping with fundraising and serving as role models for current students.

BSC alumna Jennifer Howard Waters, the college's previous director of admission, is acting as coordinator for the board. The Alumni Board has established chapters in Birmingham, Huntsville, Montgomery, Mobile, Nashville, Atlanta, Pensacola, and Washington, D.C., this year. Plans to hold alumni events in New York and Houston are also slated for this year.
