BSC to participate in U.S. Commercial Service education mission to Philippines and Malaysia

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Birmingham-Southern International Admission Counselor John McGinnis '11 will participate in a U.S. Commercial Service education mission to Manila, Philippines, and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from Oct. 23-30 on behalf of the college.International Admission Counselor John McGinnis

Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Commerce, in collaboration with the U.S. Department of State-supported EducationUSA network, the mission will provide 30 educational institutions with opportunities to explore these growing markets. McGinnis will be able to meet with potential students, college and university partners, and education consultants in both countries.

U.S. colleges and universities like Birmingham-Southern continue to attract top quality students from the Philippines and Malaysia as well as other locations across the globe. Welcoming international students, encouraging U.S. students to study abroad, and partnering with higher education institutions overseas enhances the competitiveness of the U.S. educational system. Not only do higher education institutions connect future global leaders with the American people, but foreign students also have a positive economic impact on the United States.

The U.S. Commercial Service is the trade promotion arm of the U.S. Department of Commerce's International Trade Administration. The service's trade professionals, which are in more than 100 U.S. cities and in more than 75 countries, help U.S. companies get started in exporting or increase sales to new global markets.

EducationUSA is a U.S. Department of State-supported network of hundreds of advising centers around the world. Each year, its advisers provide millions of international students with accurate, comprehensive, and current information about how to apply to U.S. colleges and universities.
