Turkey Creek hosts boat races, trail run, more at summer festival

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.— Turkey Creek Nature Preserve in Pinson, Ala., to host the 4th annual Float Your Boat Summer Festival on Saturday, July 20, 2013. This fun-filled, family event features an 8-kilometer trail run, balsa wood boat races, free kid’s carnival games, the City of Pinson’s “Beat The Heat” ice cream giveaway, food, music and more!

2012 event

The trail run, which is a featured leg of Alabama Outdoors’ Sizzlin' Summer Trail Series, starts at 8 a.m.

The popular balsa wood boat races begin at 11 a.m. and have been expanded this year to include a Build Your Own Boat Race as well as a Kid’s Race.  Additional details can be found here.

Proceeds from the races benefit the preserve’s environmental education programs.

Turkey Creek Nature Preserve is located in Pinson, just 15 miles north of Birmingham, and managed by the Southern Environmental Center at Birmingham-Southern College. The preserve offers breathtaking natural beauty with spectacular falls, hiking trails, fishing, and swimming, as well as educational programs for all ages.
