News from the HilltopFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Birmingham-Southern College celebrates International Education Week Nov. 12-16BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Birmingham-Southern College is hosting a week of activities, Nov 12-16, to highlight the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. "For our campus community, International Education Week (IEW) is a time to honor all cultures represented in our community, to participate in projects that inspire us to think beyond ourselves, and to educate students about the extraordinary opportunities to engage with the global community through study, internships, service, research, performance, and work," said Anne Ledvina, associate director of the Sklenar Center for International Programs at BSC. IEW is co-sponsored by the college’s Multicultural Advisory Committee and the Sklenar Center, and is a joint initiative designed by the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Department of State to encourage educational institutions to focus on international education. The week’s activities are designed to educate attendees as well as to reflect on the diversity of students from countries around the world. All events are open to the public. The events planned are as follows:
Throughout the week, there will be a global map display where students can mark the countries where they have connections. Come celebrate your global perspective like the many BSC students who participate in international study-abroad programs, internships, travels, and friendships with international students in the U.S. For more information, contact Ledvina at aledvina@bsc.edu or 205-226-7722.
