Birmingham-Southern College announces results of student government elections

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Birmingham-Southern College students have elected the Student Government Association officers they want representing them through March 2013.

The SGA is an advocate for the BSC student body and acts as a liaison for students, to the administration, faculty, and alumni.

Brittany Arias, a junior business major from Vestavia Hills, is the new SGA president. She is the daughter of David and Sherri Arias.

Also elected to the executive board of the SGA were: Abigail Dy, a junior biology/pre-med major from Clanton and the daughter of Dr. Ritky and Roxanne Dy, executive vice president; Elizabeth Pettey, a junior collaborative elementary education major from Decatur and the daughter of Christopher and Mary Pettey, treasurer; and Catherine Picou, a sophomore interdisciplinary biology-psychology major from Decatur and the daughter of Cindy and Dave Picou, secretary.

The Student Government Association also held elections this spring to fill the vacant positions for representatives. Freshman representatives will be elected in the fall. Listed by hometown and position, they are:

ANNISTON: Nisha Kashyap, a biology major, sophomore representative.

ATLANTA: Grant Williams, a junior biology major and Harrison Honors Scholar, fraternity row representative.

BIRMINGHAM: Kate Glasscock of Hoover, a junior English major and Harrison Honors Scholar, sorority row representative, and Austin Fann of Hoover, a sophomore business major, men’s residence hall representative.

DORA: Kayla Higgins, a psychology major, junior representative.

ELKMONT: Alexa Ruiz, a junior business major, commuter representative.

GREENVILLE, S.C.: Liz Blake, a junior educational services major, apartment representative.

HAMPTON COVE: Hope Ervin, a collaborative education major, sophomore representative.

HARVEST: Ashley Bice, a junior history major, and Alycia Peterson, a junior history major, women’s residence hall representatives.

HUNTSVILLE: Hunt Shepard, a business major, senior representative.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.: Rae Bolton, an English major, senior representative.

MEMPHIS, Tenn.: Ellen Shapiro, a Spanish major, senior representative.

MOBILE: Evan Grovenstein, a sophomore biology major, apartment representative.

ONEONTA: Raul Gonzalez, a biology major, junior representative.

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga.: Marlon Bryan, a junior psychology major, men’s residence hall representative.

SMYRNA, Tenn.: Armond Moyo, a junior educational services major, commuter representative.

TUSCALOOSA: Corbin Burns, a biology major, junior representative.
