Top members of Birmingham-Southern Class of 2011 named to Phi Beta Kappa honorary

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Thirty-three Birmingham-Southern College graduating seniors have been elected to Phi Beta Kappa membership this spring.

Phi Beta Kappa typically recognizes senior college students who are in the upper 10 percent of their class. Election is based upon academic achievement and demonstration of excellence in the liberal arts and sciences. Phi Beta Kappa is the nation’s oldest and most prestigious academic honor society. Birmingham-Southern serves as a Phi Beta Kappa sheltering institution.

The students, listed by hometown, are:

Birmingham:

Shelby: Mary Katherine Foster, an English major from Northern Shelby.
South: Lindsay Moore, a biology major from Mountain Brook, and Nicole White, a biology major from Homewood.
West: Grace Balinda of College Hills, a biology major and an international student from Kigali, Rwanda.

Clanton: Tiffany Dy, a biology major.

Cullman: Matthew Graham, a chemistry major, and Hannah Holland, a history major and Harrison Honors Scholar.

Decatur: Sarah Carper, a psychology major and Harrison Honors Scholar, and Zachary Guyse, a history major and Harrison Honors Scholar.

Dora: Ryan Creel, a math major

Eads, Tenn.: Taylor Pearson, a history major.

Goshen, Ky.: Alexandra Sack, a biology major and Harrison Honors Scholar, and Katherine Sack, a psychology major and Harrison Honors Scholar.

Grant: Ellyn Sibley, an English major and Harrison Honors Scholar.

Houston, Texas: Simone Schicker, a history major and Harrison Honors Scholar.

Huntsville: Allison Herren, a history major and Harrison Honors Scholar, and Chase Seaver, a philosophy major.
