BSC schedules Black History Month activities

The Birmingham-Southern Black Student Union is sponsoring several events throughout the month of February to celebrate Black History Month.

The month-long celebration will include multiple speakers, a showing of Black is … Black Ain’t and discussion, The Gathering chapel event, and BSC’s first annual talent show titled "It’s Show Time at the Apollo."  The celebration will conclude Feb. 26 with a Day of Service.

Birmingham Mayor William Bell Sr. will speak on “Building Our Future One Child at a Time" Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. in the Norton Campus Center Bruno Great Hall.

Other speakers during the month will include Dr. Victoria Ott, BSC associate professor of history; prominent civil rights leader Dr. Frederick D. Reese; and regional choral conducting pioneer Valerie R. Harris.

Events will take place each week throughout the month, and are open to the public.
