Birmingham-Southern Homecoming/Reunion Weekend Oct. 22-23 to feature awards, football

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The 2010 Birmingham-Southern College Homecoming/Reunion Weekend kicks off Oct. 22 with the annual Alumni Awards Luncheon and concludes Oct. 23 with a football game against conference rival Sewanee on the Hilltop campus.

In between the awards and the gridiron competition are campus tours, receptions, and class parties for the reunion Honor Classes, the annual Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremonies, an art gallery exhibit, a pre-game Tailgate Zone, and other special and athletics events.

The BSC Panthers will host the Sewanee Tigers in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference football game at 1 p.m. on Oct. 23 in Panther Stadium on campus. The 2010 Homecoming queen and king will be crowned at halftime.

At the Friday Alumni Awards Luncheon, the college will present its Distinguished Alumni Award to:

  • Dan Anderson of Birmingham, owner and chief operating officer of Diversified Supply Inc., and a 1979 graduate.
  • Dr. William “Bill” U. Eiland of Athens, Ga., director of the Georgia Museum of Art on the campus of the University of Georgia, and a 1970 graduate.
  • Dr. H. Joseph “Joe” Hughes Jr. of Birmingham, retired chairman of the Department of Internal Medicine at the Norwood Clinic and currently on the board of directors of the M-POWER Clinic, and a 1949 graduate.

Receiving the college’s Outstanding Young Alumni Award will be:

  • Allen Collinsworth of Istanbul, Turkey, an entrepreneur and founder of Fara Group Inc. and DRUM (Dialogue, Respect, Understanding through Music), and a 1992 graduate.
  • Rev. Susan Crow of Birmingham, executive director of Workshops Inc., and a 1992 graduate.
