Birmingham-Southern student receives Botanical Society grant

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.-Birmingham-Southern College student Kate LeCroy of Pleasant Grove has been awarded a 2010 Preparing Leaders and Nurturing Tomorrow's Scientists (PLANTS) grant by the Botanical Society of America. She is one of only eight students nationwide selected to receive the grant.

The grant will support LeCroy's attendance and participation at the annual Botany Conference to be held in Providence, R.I., July 31 - Aug. 4. Activities will include field trips and workshops before the conference as well as scientific and professional development sessions during the conference.

The Botanical Society of America exists to promote botany, the field of basic science dealing with the study and inquiry into the form, function, development, diversity, reproduction, evolution, and uses of plants and their interactions within the biosphere.

LeCroy, a rising junior at BSC, is a biology major, Harrison Scholar, and the daughter of Scott and Debbie LeCroy.
