News from the HilltopFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Area residents receive business and accounting awards from Birmingham-SouthernBIRMINGHAM, Ala.-A number of Birmingham-Southern College students were presented awards by the college's Department of Business and Accounting during the 2010 Honors Day Convocation. Listed alphabetically by hometown and award, they are: BIRMINGHAM Area: BRENTWOOD, TENN.: Patrick Price, a junior accounting major - Summer Leadership Program of Ernst & Young award. CUMMING, GA.: Jacob Coley - Sellers, Richardson, Holman & West, P.C. Scholarship in Accounting, recognizes and encourages an outstanding student of accounting at the college and provides assistance to a rising junior of high character with a declared accounting major. HOUSTON, TEXAS: Kayla Jones - The Education Foundation of The Alabama Certified Public Accountants Award, presented to a full-time accounting major who is deemed will be successful in accounting and contribute to the accounting profession. HOUSTON, TEXAS: Austin Tunnell - Birmingham Chapter of Alabama Society of Certified Public Accountants Award, presented to an accounting student whom the BSC faculty deems worthy. HUNTSVILLE: Keith Gray - Alabama Society of Certified Public Accountants Award, presented to an outstanding and active college student with an interest in accounting who plans to work in Alabama following graduation; Becker Conviser Professional Review Course Scholarship, presented to senior accounting students and recognizes those who serve as student representatives for Becker Conviser and includes a $2,250 scholarship to attend the Becker Conviser Professional Review Course for CPA examination; and the BSC Outstanding Accounting Senior Award, presented annually to senior accounting majors based upon merit, character, and potential for success. MOBILE: Samuel Hill, a junior accounting major - Summer Leadership Program of Ernst & Young award. MONTGOMERY: Wilson Brummal - Robert Henry Kirkland Accounting Merit Scholarship, awarded annually to an accounting major based upon merit and named after the Birmingham-Southern alumnus and founder of Kirkland and Co., Certified Public Accountants. PITTSBURGH, PA.: Jeralyn Jersey, a business administration major - Wall Street Journal Award, given to a graduating senior who shows unusual promise for a career in the field of economics and business administration or accounting. The award consists of a one-year subscription to "The Wall Street Journal." |
